Xu Mengtao is a Chinese player in the women’s freestyle skiing aerials (空中技巧项目). She won the gold medal (奖牌) at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. The gold is also China’s first gold in the event.
As a four-time Olympian, Xu Mengtao was super excited after the victory. “This is the first gold medal won by China in women’s aerials, and it’s just super cool. I just wanted to perform my best and I did it.” she said.
Xu Mengtao has already owned 27 World Cup goals and received the highest score in the world for jumps among women’s aerial skiers. But she only managed to bring home a silver medal from the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.
Because of the wounds, she finished sixth and ninth in Vancouver 2010 and Pyeongchang 2018, so winning Olympic gold has been a “lifelong wish”.
It was the fourth time for Xu to take part in the Winter Olympics. “Although it’s been a long journey. I always believe in myself.” she said. She has been in good shape for the past years, so she has given her best to prepare for the game. She believed training and keeping in good form brought her the gold medal.
The advantage of hard work may come late, but it will come for sure.
