Winter tourism is gaining steady momentum across China, transforming frosty landscapes into economic opportunities. From the snow-capped peaks of Xinjiang to indoor ski resorts in Shenzhen, the sector is witnessing robust growth. Initiatives such as trial “snow vacations” for students in Xinjiang and Jilin have helped boost local scenic spot ticket sales by over 13% year-on-year.

Resorts are expanding in scale—Harbin’s Ice and Snow World now covers 1.2 million square meters, while Ningxia has rolled out over 270 winter-themed activities. This nationwide boom exemplifies the drive to turn “ice and snow into gold and silver,” creating employment opportunities and stimulating consumer spending, and demonstrating the vitality of China’s consumer market. The cold season has indeed become a red-hot economic engine.
