Lance is a nine-year-old student. He came back home from hospital days ago. Doctors made an operation on his faces. It was a five-hour operation. The doctors told Lance not to do any sports at home or at school.
Lance's grandfather, Willie said after the operation the third grader had to stay at home, but he asked to go see his friends at school, because the students were playing games and having fun races that day. "He loves school, he really does. He likes to stay with his friends at school," said Willie.
When Lance got to school, he couldn’t join in any of the sports. So to keep Lance feeling good, his third grade teacher, Tiffany Thorn asked Lance to be her "coach". Every time she wanted to do something, she would ask Lance first. For the big balloon game, Thorn had another idea. She asked if Lance wanted a ride, "It was the balloon pop, I put him on my back and we ran down, popped the balloon," she said. "We had a little difficult at first, but we popped it and then ran back."
Willie said his grandson was very excited about the game long after it was over. Lance's grandmother, Kathy, also a teacher at the school, said she was thankful that Thorn gave a nice present to Lance.
