Living in a foreign country is not so easy, especially for those working oversea.
People may meet many difficulties as things in another country are quite different from those in their own countries. They may have money problem, culture problem, transportation problem, food problem, and language problems and so on.
Sun Meiyan is a 33-year-old Chinese nurse. She majored in foreign nursing care and she took a three-month language course at the Weihai training center. Then she worked in an overseas hospital, the Almana General Hospital, for five years. With this working experience, when interviewers from Saudi German Hospital came to Weihai to hire nurses, they chose Sun without hesitation. She went there and worked as a nurse for seven years. Now she is training Chinese nurses who want to work in Saudi Arabia at the Shandong International Nurse Training Center in Weihai, Shandong province.
Sun shares knowledge on local laws and culture with her students. “Thanks to the seven-year working experience in Saudi Arabia, I understand the country’s laws, culture and lifestyle very well,” Sun said. On the other hand, as language is the biggest obstacle to foreign employment, Sun always tells her students to pay more attention to language. She tells them that besides English, nurses who want to work in Saudi Arabia need to learn some Arabic. What’s more? In Saudi Arabia, a nurse’s image is as important as her professional skills, so Sun instructs her students to wash and iron their uniform every day.
