The "Chinese Dream" belongs to each Chinese person. Han has worked at the Tourist Service Center of the Summer Palace for seven years. She knew nothing of the roles and responsibilities of a tour guide when she was offered the job in 2008, a short time after she graduated from the English Department of Sichuan International Studies University.
Even though the center trained Han and the other new guides, she spent a lot of time studying the history, culture and architecture of the Summer Palace. Han was a qualified tour guide within three months.
In 2009, she was assigned to guide the leaders of the Beijing municipal government during an exhibition on the achievements of Beijing's outstanding young workers.
"That was really an urgent task, as I was given only two days to remember the information about all of the 31 models. Maybe it was the touching stories of those young models that drove me to complete my task," says Han.
"Almost all of the tourists know the Summer Palace is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Beijing, but they don't know why. The Summer Palace, a world cultural heritage site, is the largest and best-preserved imperial garden in China, and it is a masterpiece of Chinese landscape garden design. I hope tour guides will help every visitor, both Chinese and foreigners, learn these facts," Han says.
