Patients won't have to wait in long line to see a doctor any more. Using a computer with Internet access, they can now consult a doctor at home.
On Oct 12, Hunan's first online hospital supported by a hospital – the Second People’s Hospital of Hunan Province (SPHH) in Changsha, started service and general practice. Unlike a traditional consulting room, there’s a computer with a video system where the doctor “sees” a patient through the screen.
"It's a free service at present. Later the online hospital will charge a consultation fee," Li added. So far online consultation spots have been set up in several drugstores in Changsha, where patients can get prescription drugs directly in the store after a video consultation with doctors online. Such services will gradually be in companies, public institutions and colleges.
Zhao Weihua, an official with Hunan’s health department, said that the online hospital allows people to enjoy high-quality medical service through the Internet.
"The online hospital will offer easier treatment for patients," said Zeng Xianxiang, head of the SPHH online hospital, who went on to explain that many people in China don’t like to go to the hospital because of the private secret, online medical service allows patients to privately communicate with doctors and experts.
