A five-year-old boy became a hero because he saved his sleeping grandmother from a house fire.
Nathaniel Stocks, from Phelan, California, visited a San Bernardino Fire Department fire house with his classmates during a school trip last Thursday. He learned much about what to do if there is a fire. Two days later, he put his knowledge into action.
When he woke up on Sunday morning, he found smoking filling his room. He jumped out of his bed and crawled(爬行) to his grandmother’s room. He woke his grandmother up.
“I think he saved our lives,” his grandma, Kimberly Ratliff, said, “at that moment I was asleep.”
Ratliff said she got up to find big flames inside home. She and her grandson ran out of the house. When the firemen reached home, they brought the fire under control in 15 minutes. No one was injured.
Nathaniel knew what to do after the trip to the firehouse last week. His grandmother said, “Nathaniel is a really clever boy.”
On Monday, Nathaniel was honored(给……以荣誉) by the fire department and they posted a photo to Twitter.
