As the number of Chinese people with cars is expected to rise as a result of their growing wealth, greater awareness of the traffic rules are needed to reduce incidents of dangerous driving and road rage. China is now the world’s largest car market, but drivers don’t seem to improve their driving skills and road manners much. More than 17 million incidents of road rage have been reported to traffic police so far this year, a traffic policeman said on Monday, a day before the Fourth National Traffic Safety Day. Driving angrily has been a key reason to road accidents and deaths. In 2013, altogether 80,200 accidents happened because of anger behind the wheel, a 4.9 percent year-on-year increase and the number rose by 2.4 percent in 2014.
By the end of October, China had 276 million vehicles according to official numbers, 160 million of which are private cars, and the number of drivers is 322 million. The increased car use caused terrible crowding in the roads. Then more drivers choose not to obey the traffic rules. China has the largest number of road accident deaths in the world, many of which are because of drivers’ bad habits and their lack of respect for traffic rules. The rise in the number of drivers means that greater efforts have to be made to raise drivers’ traffic awareness. And drivers have to ______ traffic rules so as to reduce the number of killers on the road.
