Edinburgh is the capital(首都) city of Scotland. It is also the world’s festival city. There are twelve festivals during the whole year. Half of them are during July and August. Millions of people visit Edinburgh then. Here are some of the events.
The Edinburgh International Festival
It began in 1947. Actors, musicians, dancers and singers from all over the world perform to huge audiences(观众). You need tickets for most events which take place in theaters around the city.
The Edinburgh Art Festival
This festival is modern and has been celebrated for around ten years. It is a good chance(机会) to see some of the city’s best art in art museums. Most events are free and events include fashion shows and art shows.
The Edinburgh International Book Festival
The largest book festival in the world began in 1983 and takes place every year in Charlotte Square Gardens in the centre of Edinburgh. There are over 700 events for children and adults who love books. You can meet many authors(作者), talk to them, ask them to sign(签名) a book or listen to their stories. Children can listen to stories and watch people draw pictures of the stories.
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe
The most popular of the festival’s shows is comedy. Every August, comic artists from all over the world come here to show their skills. They take advantage of every available space in the city to perform.
