Rory Slater, the executive assistant manager of food and beverage at The Ritz-Carlton Beijing, is sharing his National Day holiday plans and past travel experiences with us.
Where are you going this National Day holiday?
I'm going to Thailand for the first time in more than 20 years. I'm looking forward to rediscovering Bangkok. Last time I was there as a 10-year-old boy. I'm going there with one of my best friends in Beijing, and he has managed to find really cheap flights from Beijing to Bangkok via Macao where we'll spend a whole day.
How do you buy tickets and make hotel reservations?
I buy tickets and make hotel reservations through online services, such as Expedia.com and Booking.com.
What have been your favorite destinations during past National Day holidays? Why?
Dali. The area was so green and felt completely different from the big city Beijing. There are lovely food and people, and it was nice that hawkers in the old markets weren't in my face.
What do you enjoy most and least when you travel during National Day holidays?
The seven-day holiday is the best part. But there are too many people taking vacations. You see long lines wherever you go and spend a lot of time waiting.
Will you bring a camera or just a smartphone for taking pictures? Will you post thoughts and pictures on social media as you travel?
I will take pictures with a smartphone and will post pictures and thoughts.
