A Chinese man has been fined(罚款) after he was seen painting new road signs to make his daily journey easier.
The 28-year-old man was fined 1,000 yuan in the eastern city of Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province. He was seen on 27 September with a can of white paint painting new arrows onto the road to redirect traffic. He told police it was the result of frustrations over the long delays(延迟) on his daily bus journey to work.
“I saw that the straight lane was always packed with cars, while the lane that turns left has a lot of space,” he told the police. “I thought changing the signs would make my daily journey smoother.”
Traffic police said that they thought the man’s action was “very dangerous” and could have resulted in an accident. They have asked workers to repaint the road.
This is not the first time that someone in China has used their arts and crafts skills to invent their own traffic rules. In May, a driver in eastern Zhejiang was fined after drawing his own parking space with chalk on a road.
