Dr. White entered his patient Lily’s hospital room. He had been searching for the cause of Lily’s illness and he hadn’t found a clue.
“How are you feeling now?” Dr. White asked Lily. Lily replied that she felt terribly uncomfortable. The doctor tried to get Lily’s mind off her health by talking about Lily’s vacation at New Delhi. But Dr. White couldn’t keep his own mind on the conversation. He kept wondering what could be wrong with her patient.
Suddenly Lily’s words stopped Dr. White’s thoughts. Lily said, “The vacation was really perfect, except for the food. The last meal I ate was especially terrible.”
Dr. White quickly came back to the talk, “Lily, when did you eat that meal?” Lily said that it had been the day before yesterday.
Dr. White thought he had discovered the cause of Lily’s illness. Several hours later, Dr. White was back with the answer. “Lily, the food you ate made you ill. You’re suffering from food poisoning(中毒). We find the cause, so we can prescribe the right medicine.”
