Mr Mellet often went to a bar near his house. But he never took his son Troye, because he was too young. Nobody under eighteen years old is allowed to drink in a bar in England. Then when Troye had his eighteenth birthday, Mr Mellet took him to his usual bar for the first time. They drank about half an hour. Troye drank a bit.
Mr Mellet said to his son, “Now, Troye, I want to teach you a useful lesson. How do you know when you have drunk enough? I’ll tell you. Do you see those two lights at the end of the bar? When they seem to become four, you have drunk enough and should go home.” “But, Dad,” said Troye, ”I can only see one light at the end of the bar.”
