The United Arab Emirates(UAE) is famous for its desert climate. There is not enough fresh water. The country has to rely on desalination. It costs a lot of money and does harm to the environment.
A businessman in the UAE thinks he has got a better idea. Antarctica has about 70 percent of the world’s fresh water. He plans to drag an iceberg over 5,500 miles (8,800 km) to his country. He believes that it could provide fresh water for one million people for five years.
The plan might take up to ten months. About 30 percent of the ice would melt along the way. It is also hoped that the iceberg could also double as a unique tourist attraction and draw in tourists from around the area. The iceberg (2000 m × 550 m) could even change Fujairah’s climate by attracting cool damp air and resulting in rainfall. Will it work? Let’s just wait and see!
