Turning round, a look of shock on its face, a marmot jumps in fear after a fox turns up behind it.
The wonderful seconds between prey and predator — called the Moment — won the photographer the title of Wildlife Photographer of the Year. It is the top honor from the Natural History Museum, in London. Photographer Bao Yongqing, from Qinghai Province of China, took the picture on a grassland in China's Qilian Mountains National Nature Reserve. 48,000 people from 100 countries took part in this activity.
“To a photographer, it is quite the perfect moment,” said Roz Kidman Cox, the chair of the judging panel. “To see such a powerful meeting between a Tibetan fox and a marmot — two animals key to the ecology of this high-grassland place — is great.”
