A court has ruled that ducks living on a small farm in a French town can keep on quacking. A neighbour brought an official complaint about the noisy animals, but it is now rejected. “The ducks have won,” Dominique Douthe said. “I’m very happy because I don’t want to kill my ducks.” She is a farmer who keeps the ducks in the Soustons district in southwest France.
A Dax court said the noise from around 60 ducks and geese kept by the farmer was within acceptable limits. The complaint was brought by Ms Douthe’s neighbour. They moved from the city around a year ago into a house about 50 metres away from her home.
The neighbour’s lawyer said the noise went beyond common levels and stopped the neighbour enjoying the garden or sleeping with the house windows open. The dispute is the latest in a series of court cases, especially farmyard noises.
