A 6-year-old girl Daphne Kenny was shopping at the Raley's Supermarket in Sacramento, in the US state of California, with her mum, Danica, when something on a shelf caught her eye. It wasn’t a shopping list left behind by another shopper, and the note seemed to be left specifically for someone to find. “Whoever finds this, I love you,” it read with a US$100 note.
Her mum first thought it could be fake, but was able to make sure it was real because she once worked at a bank. “To her a penny is the same as a $100 bill. So I told her she found $100, and I told her that it was a lot of money,” Danica said.
At first the mum would like to use the money for groceries, but finally let her daughter keep it to spend it on something for herself. “I don't think I would do as she did, she thanked me again and again,” she said. Daphne took the money straight to a store called Build-A-Bear, and picked up two new toy cats. The mum hoped that by sharing their story it would help others realize that something small can make someone happy.
