Rosie Beeson persuaded her husband Dan to travel in a campervan for the trip of a lifetime with kids Monty, 8, and Winter, 5. They bought the campervan for £21,000 within just 24 hours after selling their home, and were on their way through Europe and on to Africa only a week or so later.
Now, after their most relaxing Christmas ever, Rosie and her family start the next journey with no regrets. Winter says, “I just love it! Our house has wheels and we can go anywhere in the whole wide world. I love seeing new things in all of the new countries, learning the languages and making new friends everywhere.” And brother Monty says, “I like going on walks with Daddy when we all go on bike rides. I’ve met new friends from all over the world and I get to see the sea and beach so much.”
The family paid for the trip by making £90,000 from selling their home in Ilkeston, Derbyshire. Rosie says, “People have said they wish they could afford to do what we’ve done, but we aren’t rich. We just decided to live differently and not to worry about material things. This has been amazing for our family. The children have seen incredible places and met people from all over the world. They have found what’s important in life.” So far the Beesons have made two trips to Europe—travelling through France, Spain and Portugal.
Rosie says, “We realized we didn’t want that 9 to 5 life, with no energy for family time and no money for holidays. Rosie believes that seeing the world is giving her children a better education than if they are in a classroom. The family post their adventures on Facebook called The Migratory Bees—and record the trip in a book.
