Not too long ago, Singapore seemed to have brought the coronavirus(冠状病毒) under control. However, a second wave hit. The government had to make stricter lockdown rules as a result. For visitors to Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, these new rules may see them receiving a warning from an unusual dog.
The dog, called Spot, is a four-legged robot. It works around the area with a park worker. It plays a recording that tells visitors to “stand at least one meter apart.” The robot has cameras. They are used to know the number of visitors in the park. Unlike wheeled robots, Spot can walk on different surfaces. That makes it suitable for public parks. The robot also has sensors so that it won’t hit anything within one meter of itself.
If everything goes well, Spot may work in other public places in the future. When an eye-catching robot dog tells you to keep your distance, it is hard not to listen.
