Jackson Houlding, three, and sister Freya, seven, were led up Piz Badile by climber dad Leo. Jackson has become the youngest mountain climber to reach a 10,853ft peak.
Mum Jessica, 41, carried Jackson part of the way. He said, “I enjoyed the climb by myself and I also enjoyed the sweets.” Freya made it without any help. She added, “I found it fun and scary. I’m proud.”
Leo, of Staveley, Cumbria, celebrated his 40th birthday at the peak on the Switzerland-Italy border. He said, “It’s a classic route. I knew it was a big adventure but we never felt out of our depth.”
The family spent three nights on the peak from July 25, 2020. They finished 153 years to the day since it was first climbed by American William Coolidge.
