Nina Peterson is a new mom. She felt the weight of loneliness in her motherhood journey. So she reached out to her community for support.
Living far from her own family and with her husband having no family left, Nina decided to turn to her community for a special kind of companionship (友情). Nina put out a heartfelt request for an “adoptive (收养的) grandma” for her baby.
“The world just seems so cold at the moment, but all of those messages of support and all these people who reach out show that there are good people out there still,” Nina told ABC News.
Among the sea of responses (回应), 61-year-old Christine Arnott became the perfect match. Christine, who always wanted a grandchild of her own, lived in the same area as Nina. Since their first meeting six months ago, Christine has lovingly played the role of Nanny Christine to little Millie.
“I have a lot of love to give,” Christine said. The newfound relationship goes beyond just a title, with weekly walks in parks and play dates becoming important moments for both Nina and Christine.
Thinking of the unexpected relationship, Christine said, “I get a lot more out of it than what I ever give. She brings me so much joy. It’s crazy.”
