Led by Teens Give Back SATX, a group of teenagers in San Antonio are making a difference in the lives of those in need.
“Having a bed to go home to at night after a long day of work or school is comfortable,” said Addie Roberts with Teens Give Back SATX. With this in mind, Roberts and her friends decided to reuse used plastic bags. They wanted to make them become something invaluable for San Antonio’s homeless people.
Each sleeping mat (垫子) needs about 700 to 900 bags. It can take 15-20 hours to finish. Although creating these mats needs a lot of time and hard work, these teenagers still try to make a difference to their community. Over the past year, Teens Give Back SATX has made about 50 mats, changing many homeless people’s lives.
“In some temperatures, the mats can save lives by keeping people off the ground,” said Rex Brien, Vice President of Emergency Services for SAMMinistries. As the teenagers continue their work, they invite others to join their cause and make a difference.
