John Darwin was a man from the UK. He ran a business(企业). He met with some money problems 22 years ago. He didn’t know what to do.
So one day, he went canoeing. He went missing. No one knew where he was. People were surprised. There was no storm(暴风雨) at sea. Darwin’s wife(妻子) got £ 250,000 from his life insurance(人寿保险). But in fact(事实上), the man was not dead. He lived in a house next door. Even his two sons thought that he was dead.
One day, the man came to the police station. He said that he didn’t remember the past five years. He used another name. The police didn’t think his words were true. Darwin and his wife went to prison(监狱) for six years. Darwin said that he faked the accident(伪造事故). He said that it was better for the family when he was dead.
