For the Moldovan(摩尔多瓦的) girl Gaby, whose Chinese name is Li Xiaoxiao, Chongqing is the beginning of her dream.
Xiaoxiao visited China with her classmates about eight years ago. The first city she arrived in was Chongqing. She fell in love with it as soon as she got off the plane. She quickly decided to stay in Chongqing.
However, living in a city and visiting it are two different things. The biggest barrier to her living there was in communication. She did not know any Chinese or even English. As Xiaoxiao thought Chongqing dialect(方言) was standard(标准的) Chinese, she learned it very hard. But after learning what she thought was Chinese, she found that the language she had spent two years learning is actually the Chongqing dialect.
In 2017, Xiaoxiao began to shoot short videos in her free time. At the beginning of 2018, she started a Douyin account. And she quickly became popular for her humour and dialect fluency(流利). Xiaoxiao is also interested in doing something to help the two countries understand each other. She introduced Chinese food and stories about China to her friends in Moldova. She also introduced the history of Moldova to the Chinese.
“I’d love to do it,” she said. “I will continue to introduce the culture of the two countries and hope that the two countries will become better and better.”
