Tami Avolia lost her son, Travis, in a shooting in 2017. It was one week after he learnt he was going to have a baby girl.
This year Avolia wanted to do something special to celebrate her son’s birthday with his now 4-year-old daughter, Milan. Avolia let a “Happy Birthday” balloon fly into the sky and joined a note to the string(线) from Milan. The note read, “Happy birthday, daddy. I love you. I miss you. And I never wanted you to go away. Happy Birthday. Baby girl.”
But what happened next is something Avolia and her family never expected. “A couple of days later, I found a package(包裹) from ‘Daddy in heaven(天堂)’ to ‘Baby Girl’,” Avolia said. A note was inside the package. It read “I love your birthday gift. Thank you so much. Daddy loves you and Mommy so much and you all. Here’s a gift that I made just for you. Hope you like it.” There were also three Christmas ornaments(装饰品).
“It was great to see the smile on Milan’s face when she got her gift from daddy in heaven,” Avolia said. “After what I went through, I lost hope. But the person brought it back. I just want to thank him/her, whoever it is. I want to thank him/her.”
