The day before Ashley was going to give birth to her baby, she woke up to the sound of her husband, Andrew. He was having trouble breathing in the bed next to her. Ashley quickly called 911 and started giving him first aid.
Doctors later spoke highly of Ashley for saving her husband’s life. But he wasn’t out of danger. Andrew was sent to the hospital. Doctors said he’d had a sudden heart arrest. Hospital workers started preparing Ashley for the worst possible result. Ashley worried about bringing their baby home without her husband by her side.
Andrew went into a coma (昏迷) with a low body temperature for 24 hours. Meanwhile Ashley put off her scheduled C-section (剖腹产) so she could stay at Andrew’s bedside. Their friends and family came to say their goodbyes. The next day, doctors brought Andrew out of the coma. It was a big shock to everyone. “I was looking for songs he likes to try to activate brain activity. All of a sudden, he woke up. I just dropped everything. I was just telling him he was OK. He looked so scared and confused (疑惑的),” Ashley said.
Twenty-four hours later, Ashley gave birth to their son. While Andrew couldn’t be in the room to welcome his son, he was able to watch the birth through the video. Just days later, they all went back home, feeling very lucky to be together. “It’s a miracle,” Andrew said.
