A student in Grade 4 helped saved the life of his classmate. It was lunch time, all the students were having lunch, and Adkins was eating chicken. Suddenly Adkins’ face turned red, he could not breathe or say a word. Pichardo was sitting beside Adkins, he found something was wrong with Adkins. “Is he choking?” Pichardo said to himself.
At first he thought Adkins was joking, but he quickly found his friend couldn't breathe. So he saved Adkins with what he learned from his mother. His mother was a nurse, she taught Pichardo some lifesaving skills at home.
Pichardo is still learning reading and writing, but he knows a lot about Lifesaving. Pichardo not only saved his friend's life, but also made his classmates learn lifesaving skills.
"It takes a little time for the ambulance to get there, so it's best that you know how to do it," Adkins said. Pichardo said he was glad nearby teachers came to take his friend to the school nurse, because he still wasn't sure if he was okay.
Both boys said that lunch wouldn't make them change the lunch menu. "I like chicken," Pichardo laughed. The pair said they learned an important lesson on knowing what to do, saving a life, and maybe spending a little more time on eating.
