It is always painful to see something useful being turned into rubbish, and that may be what shared bikes are facing.
One year ago, shared bikes were introduced into major Chinese cities, and they became a new lifestyle, a symbol of fashion. But, now, they are eyesores, and even trouble on the streets.
You can see shared bikes are parked in a mess at bus stops and subway stations. Thus they become roadblocks(路障) on sidewalks for pedestrians(行人). What’s more, I have seen shared bikes with their seats missing, wheels twisted or locks broken many times on the street, as a result of purposeful damage(破坏). In Beijing's Dongcheng district, more than 30 shared bikes were discovered in mid-June underwater in a river.
Why are shared bikes so popular? Maybe users have to deposit money before they use bikes, range from 99 yuan to 299 yuan. As there are more than 100 million users in China, billions of dollars in deposit money may bring huge returns for bike-share operators when they use it to invest(投资) elsewhere.
No one knows how long bike-share companies can last. History shows that no company can go farther without a perfect management. After all, only when the tide goes out do we discover who has been swimming naked.
