There's nothing more upset than coming home from the office to cook a delicious meal in mind, only to find your half-eaten food has gone bad. But if you use your freezer effectively, it can save your time and money.
Here, we have collected some surprising foods you never know you could keep in the fridge.
1. Bacon. Freeze bacon for up to three months in foil-wrapped packages of two to four pieces. They are perfect for cooking up a last-minute fried rice. Just simply chop them up straight from the freezer, and there's no need to defrost(解冻).
2. School Lunches. Many of us have all stored bread in the freezer to prevent them from going bad. To speed up the lunch preparation, you can freeze complete sandwiches or bread rolls. They go bad quickly on the bench but remember to avoid vegetables such as lettuce and tomatoes because they do go wet after freezing.
3. Milk. Astonishingly, milk can freeze up to six months. You can freeze the liquid directly in its plastic bottle but make sure you use a bit first because milk can expand when frozen. Another way of freezing them for later is pouring them into ice-cube trays—perfect to add to smoothies, soups or even cool down your coffee.
4. Flour. Finally, another material you probably would never think to freeze is flour. Freezing flour in an air-tight container is a great way of keeping it fresh, especially for whole grain flour, which have a shorter shelf life than refined flour. And it keeps pests out of your flour, too! To prevent changes to the texture of your baked goods, bring the frozen flour to room temperature before using it in your baking. Spreading it out on a baking tray will speed up this process.
