After a tense search in the small town of Dorchester, New Hampshire, a missing 2-year-old girl was found safe thanks to a volunteer and his search dog.
Late Friday afternoon, New Hampshire Fish and Game and State Police received a call about a missing child who had been gone for more than 45 minutes. The little girl had been playing in her fenced front yard with two dogs when the gate somehow opened — either by the dogs or the child herself — and she left the home.
Within hours, nearly 100 volunteers joined the search effort, carefully searching the woods and surrounding (周围的) areas. Among them was Jeremy Corson and his K-9 partner, Freya, from New England K-9 Search and Rescue. Together, they were the ones who found the girl. “It was a very sweet moment,” Corson said. “The first thing she says to me was, ‘I’m cold, I think I’m ready for a bath.’ And that just broke my heart. I said, ‘all right, let’s get you home and have that bath.’”
The child wasn’t hurt and was happy to see Freya when she was found. She was carried to a waiting ambulance and taken to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center for a physical exam.
Conservation officer Chris McKee praised the massive community effort that led to the safe recovery. “If there were no volunteers or other groups, things might not have ended so well,” he said.
