Once upon a time, there lived a king. He lived a rich life but was neither happy nor content(满足的). One day, the king saw a servant who was singing happily while he worked. The king asked the servant, “Why are you so happy?” The man answered, “Your Majesty, I am only a servant, but my family and I don’t need too much.”
The king was not satisfied with that reply. Later, he asked for advice of his advisor(顾问). The advisor said, “Your Majesty, I believe that the servant has not been made part of the 99 Club.” “The 99 Club? What is that?” the king asked. The advisor answered, “Your Majesty, to truly know what the 99 Club is, put 99 gold coins in a bag and leave it near this servant’s house.” So the king ordered someone to do it. When the servant saw the bag, he took it into his house. He was happy with the 99 coins. But he thought there would be the 100th coin, and tried to find it, but failed. Then he decided to work harder than ever to get that gold coin. From that day on, the servant’s life changed. He worked for more hours and felt tired every day. He stopped singing while he worked.
The king was puzzled(困惑的). Then the advisor said, “Your Majesty, the servant has now joined the 99 Club.” He continued, “The 99 Club is a name given to those people who have enough to be happy but are never content. Because they’re always trying to find that other coin.”
