Ri Ri and Shin Shin are cute giant pandas. They left Tokyo’s Ueno Zoo on September 29, 2024. They went back to China because they are old and have some health problems.

   Ri Ri and Shin Shin come from Sichuan in China. They went to live at Ueno Zoo 13 years ago. In 2017, they had a baby panda named Xiang Xiang. Xiang Xiang is very famous. She returned to China last year. In 2021, Ri Ri and Shin Shin had twin cubs Xiao Xiao and Lei Lei. Many people from different places liked to see these pandas at the zoo.

   The two pandas are now 19 years old. They have health problems because they are old. The Tokyo government (政府) and the Chinese wildlife group decided to send the pandas back to China for better care and treatment (治疗).

   On Saturday, over 2,000 people waited in a long line to see the panda pair one last time. Many people were sad and crying. After the pandas returned home, Ueno Zoo has just two pandas left, the twins Xiao Xiao and Lei Lei.
