A popular mountain scenic spot in Sichuan Province allows visitors to chase after wild boars (野猪) and even take them home for free if they can catch them with their bare hands.

Photos and videos of people seemingly enjoying themselves while running after full-grown boars and trying to catch them with their bare hands recently became popular on social media, causing many to wonder if the photos were genuine, and if so, what could make people risk their lives like that. As it turns out, this has been a very popular activity at the Jiuhuang Mountain Scenic Area since at least 2013, and no serious injuries have been reported since. Some sources report that when the Jiuhuang Mountain scenic spot introduced the bizarre activity, not only did it allow people to take home the animal they caught completely free, but also rewarded them with a prize of 10,000 yuan. The monetary incentive was canceled at some point, but visitors can still walk away with the boar they manage to catch.

Getting to take home your catch is nothing to scoff of, but it doesn’t sound like the kind of prize people would risk their lives for. However, the Jiuhuang Mountain Scenic Area website clarifies that the wild boars aren’t really that wild. They are second-generation boars raised in captivity (圈养) and have no very long teeth. That means their violent instincts are considerably suppressed (抑制) and they can’t really attack people even if they wanted to. Still, there is a degree of risk, just not the kind of danger associated with fighting against wild boars.

Apart from paying the fee to be allowed to chase after wild boars at Jiuhuang Mountain, the only other rule appears to be using only your hands. Female pigs with piglets (小猪) and young boars under 30 kilograms cannot be “collected” as prizes.

A It has caused many serious injuries since 2013.

B Visitors can take home the wild boar they catch for free.

C Visitors are rewarded with a prize of 10,000 yuan.

D Not many people are willing to try the activity.

根据第二段的“Some sources report that when the Jiuhuang Mountain scenic spot introduced the bizarre activity, not only did it allow people to take home the animal they caught completely free...” A选项与第二段“no serious injuries have been reported since”相矛盾;C选项中与第二段“The monetary incentive was canceled at some point”相矛盾;D选项与第二段“this has been a very popular activity at the Jiuhuang Mountain Scenic Area since at least 2013”相矛盾。故选B。

2.2. Why might people be willing to risk?

A They are offered a large money reward.

B They are required to do so as part of the entrance fee.

C The scenic area is known for its high safety standards.

D The boars are actually not much wild and pose little risk.

根据第三段的“They are second-generation boars raised in captivity and have no very long teeth.”

3.3. Which of the following wild boars cannot be taken home as a prize?

A A wild boar that is fully grown.

B A wild boar that is caught by bare hands.

C A pregnant wild boar.

D A wild boar over 50 kilograms.

根据最后一段的“Female pigs with piglets and young boars under 30 kilograms cannot be ‘collected’ as prizes.”

4.4. What is the main idea of the passage?

A A popular scenic spot in Sichuan offers a unique activity.

B People in Sichuan enjoy hunting wild animals.

C Jiuhuang Mountain is famous for its wild boars.

D The dangers of catching wild boars with bare hands.

解析:选A。 故选A。
