A man was going on a long trip. He told his servant to watch the gate and look after the donkey.
After the man left, the servant heard someone playing music in the neighborhood. He wanted to go there and listen. But he needed to keep an eye on the gate and look after the donkey. So he came up with an idea. He took down the gate and tied it to the donkey’s back. He left with the donkey carrying the gate.
After the servant left, thieves stole all the valuable (贵重的) things. When the man came back, he asked the servant,“Where are my valuable things?” The servant answered, “You only told me to watch the gate and the donkey. I don’t know where your valuable things are.” The man said, “I left you to guard the gate to protect my valuable things. Now they’re gone. What’s the point of having a gate?”
