李白：壮志凌云持剑往，诗酒成仙未封王
Li Bai (born in 701 in Jiangyou, Sichuan province, China — died in 762 in Dangtu, Anhui province) was a Chinese poet who lived during the Tang Dynasty. Known the Poet Immortal, Li Bai is often regarded, along with Du Fu, as one of the two greatest poets in China’s literary history. About 1,100 of his poems remain today. When Li Bai was 24, he left home and traveled around. Later, he got married and lived with his wife’s family in Anlu (now in Hubei province). He started writing poems and showed them to various officials hoping to get a job as a secretary. However, it didn’t work out. After more traveling, in 742, he arrived in Chang’an, the Tang dynasty capital, wanting a job at court. He didn’t get an official job, but he was accepted into a group of successful court poets. In the autumn of 744, he started traveling again.
In 756, Li Bai became the unofficial poet for Prince Lin, the emperor’s 16th son. The prince was soon accused of trying to start an independent kingdom and was found guilty; Li Bai was arrested and put in prison at Jiujiang. In the summer of 758, he was sent away to Yelang but was freed on the way due to a general amnesty (赦免). He returned to eastern China and died in a relative’s house. Some legends say he drowned while drunk, trying to catch the moon’s reflection in the water.
