丛林智慧,团结胜强

Long ago, in a forest, a couple of sparrows lived happily in their nest on top of a tall tree. They were filled with excitement for the arrival of their little ones, as the female sparrow had recently laid several eggs.

On an exceptionally warm summer’s day, an elephant became uncontrollable because of the heat. He charged through the woods, breaking trees in his way. Unluckily, he also destroyed the tree where the sparrows had built their nest. All of the eggs were crushed upon impact. Despite escaping to ensure their own safety, the sparrows were sad. The mother sparrow cried out loud for her broken eggs.

Upon hearing the cries, a woodpecker (啄木鸟) approached to comfort her. “Please don’t weep, dear sparrow. There is no use in crying over what has happened. But if you want, we can find a way to teach that elephant a lesson!” The female sparrow said, “Yes, please help me!” The woodpecker thought for a moment and said, “I have a friend, the fly. She is clever. Let’s ask for her help.”

Then the sparrow and the woodpecker flew to the fly. Upon hearing their story, the fly agreed to assist. “We also need my friend, the frog,” said the fly, “He’s very wise. Together, we can defeat the elephant.”

When they all met the frog, he listened to the whole story and came up with a great plan. “Here’s what we’ll do,” the frog said. “Fly, you will buzz around the elephant’s ear to distract him. As he closes his eyes, the woodpecker will peck his eyes and make him blind. I will sit near a hole and croak (呱呱地叫) loudly when the elephant searches for water. He will think there is a pond nearby, and when he follows my voice, he will fall into the hole.”

They all agreed and teamed up. The fly buzzed the elephant’s ear, the woodpecker made him blind, and the frog led him to the hole. The elephant fell in.
