42天减重50斤!“胖医生”逆袭健美冠军

Wu Tiangen, a 31-year-old surgeon from the Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University in Hubei Province, has become famous online for losing 25 kilograms in just 42 days and winning a professional bodybuilding contest.

At the end of 2024, Wu weighed 97.5 kilograms, the heaviest he had ever been. Worried about his health — especially after discovering he had a fatty liver (脂肪肝) — he decided to make a big change. By late January 2025, the 1.82-meter-tall doctor had lost weight and was in such an amazing physical condition that he won a bodybuilding competition.

Wu, who usually helps overweight patients through surgeries like gastric bypasses, knew he needed to shed a few pounds in order to avoid developing serious health problems. He set a goal to join a bodybuilding contest to push himself. Despite his busy schedule — performing three surgeries a week, visiting patients, and doing daily research — he trained hard. At first, he exercised for two hours daily. He woke up at 5:30 a.m. for an hour of exercise, worked all day, did another hour of exercise, and ended his day with a hot shower and a foot bath to relax his muscles. Later, he increased his training to four hours a day to prepare for the contest.

Though Wu didn’t share details about his diet, his trainer, Shi Fan — a famous Chinese athlete who won the Overall Fit Model championship at the IFBB World Fit Model Championships in Lithuania last year — said training was the main factor of his weight loss achievements. “Wu’s workouts were even tougher than many professional athletes’,” Shi said.

When asked why he did it, Wu said he wanted to inspire others struggling with weight. Surprisingly, he didn’t support extreme diets or eating very little. Instead, he proved that determination and training can lead to amazing results.

解析:选B。细节理解题。根据第二段中的“At the end of 2024, Wu weighed 97.5 kilograms, the heaviest he had ever been. Worried about his health — especially after discovering he had a fatty liver — he decided to make a big change.”可知,吴天根因为担心自己的健康,尤其是发现自己有脂肪肝后,决定做出改变去减肥。故选B。

2.2. What does the underlined word “shed” in the third paragraph probably mean?

A Ignore.

B Increase.

C Keep.
