In Chinese stories, Taiyi Zhenren used lotus roots to rebuild Nezha’s body. Today, scientists in Haining are doing something similar — they create a special “eye patch” from cow heart tissue (组织) to help people with serious nearsightedness (近视).
At Nasijia Biotech’s lab, workers process cow heart tissue. They carefully cut, shape, and clean the material. The final product looks like thin curved shells. These pieces fit perfectly around human eyeballs. The lab uses special tools to control temperature, time, and pressure. This makes sure the patches are safe and strong.
Many people worldwide have serious nearsightedness, especially young people. Doctors usually rely on donated human eye tissue for surgery, but such donations are rare. The new special “eye patches” could help solve this problem. “Our patches perform better than natural human tissue in lab tests,” says chief technology officer (CTO) Zhang Yaping.
The project started ten years ago in partnership with the Eye Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University. In 2022, Nasijia moved to Haining Science and Technology Innovation Center and built clean labs for safe testing and production. Now, they produce 2,000 patches every two weeks. They also work with universities to bring together experts in medicine, engineering, and technology.
The company plans to use machines to speed up production. “Soon, only five workers may be needed,” CTO Zhang says. Annual sales could reach one billion yuan.
So far, the patches have passed animal tests and are now in human trials. If successful, they may be available in hospitals by 2027.
This invention brings hope to millions, showing how science combines ancient tales with modern solutions.

1.1. How does the writer start the passage?

A By telling a fact.

B By giving an example.

C By sharing a story.

D By asking a question.

文章开头提到“In Chinese stories, Taiyi Zhenren used lotus roots to rebuild Nezha’s body.”

2.2. What factors does the lab control during production?

A Color, smell, and taste.

B Temperature, time, and pressure.

C Weight, size, and sound.

D Light, speed, and shape.

3.3. Why are Nasijia’s patches important?

A They are cheaper than human tissue.

B They can cure all eye problems.

C Young people dislike surgeries.

D Human eye donations are too rare.

4.4. What is the main purpose of working with universities?

A To pool the knowledge of experts.

B To teach students about cow hearts.

C To get more money for research.

D To share laboratory equipment.

解析:选A。 故选A。

5.5. What does the word “trials” mean?

A Applications.

B Tests.

C Treatments.

D Meetings.
