Chengdu, a city in southwest China, will host the 12th World Games from August 7 to 17, 2025. This is the first time mainland China has held this international event. Over 5,000 athletes from around 100 countries will compete in 35 sports. Most events are non-Olympic, offering exciting new competitions.
The World Games focus on sports that are not seen in the Olympics. For example, Faustball (a team ball game), Ju-Jitsu, and Kickboxing will be featured. These sports are fun to watch and attract global fans. Some events, like Breakdancing and Climbing, also appeared in the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Games include three special events for disabled athletes, making sports more inclusive.
Chengdu mixes modern life with rich traditions. The Games’ logo shows this perfectly. It uses three symbols: the panda (Chengdu’s famous animal), the hibiscus flower (the city’s symbol), and the Chinese knot (for friendship). During the Games, visitors can enjoy Sichuan opera, spicy food, and green tea. The opening ceremony will highlight local music and dance, sharing Sichuan’s culture with the world.
Chengdu uses many parks, schools, and riverside areas for the Games. Of the 28 competition venues, 15 are temporary outdoor spaces. This saves money and protects the environment. The city also reuses sports equipment from the 2023 World University Games. Local citizens are invited to join as volunteers or “experience officers” to test events early.
Chengdu is ready to show its best. As Mayor Luo Qiang said, “We will host a wonderful event with Chinese style and Chengdu charm.” The Games will not only be about sports but also friendship and cultural exchange. Let’s look forward to this exciting festival of sports and Sichuan culture!

1.1. What does the underlined word “inclusive” probably mean?
A 包容的.
B 独特的.
C 有趣的.
D 流行的.
解析:选A。 根据第二段中的“The Games include three special events for disabled athletes, making sports more inclusive.” 故选A。
2.2. What is the main idea of Paragraph 3?
A Chengdu’s modern city life.
B Chengdu’s rich cultural traditions.
C Chengdu’s culture shown in the Games.
D Chengdu’s well-known symbols.
3.3. Based on the passage, which statement is TRUE?
A All venues are temporary.
B Citizens test events.
C All equipment is new.
D 28 venues are outdoors.
根据倒数第二段的“Local citizens are invited to join as volunteers or ‘experience officers’ to test events early”,说明市民可以参与测试赛事,B选项正确。文中“Of the 28 competition venues, 15 are temporary outdoor spaces”表明并非所有场馆都是临时的,也不是28个都在户外,A、D选项错误;“The city also reuses sports equipment from the 2023 World University Games”说明器材并非都是新的,C选项错误。故选B。
4.4. What’s the author’s attitude towards the 12th World Games in Chengdu?
A Doubtful.
B Uninterested.
C Negative.
D Expectant.
从最后一段的“Let’s look forward to this exciting festival of sports and Sichuan culture!”
5.5. How is the passage organized?
A Problem-solution.
B Cause-effect.
C General-specific.
D Comparison-contrast.
