A new bridge in Guizhou, China, will become the world’s highest when it opens on June 30, 2025. The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge is 625 meters high above the Beipan River.
Guizhou has many mountains and valleys. It already has over half of the world’s 100 highest bridges. This will be its third time holding the “world’s highest bridge” record. The first was in 2003, the second in 2016, and now this new bridge will break the record again.
Construction of the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge officially started three years ago, and in just three years’ time, the Chinese are close to completing one of the most amazing bridges in the world. At present, the progress of the bridge has reached 95%, and it is planned to be opened to traffic in the second half of this year. A Chinese engineer said it would show China’s strong building skills.
At present, crossing the huge canyon takes around 2 hours. With the new bridge, the crossing time will be lowered to about a minute! This will help local people and businesses.
The bridge will also be a fun place for tourists. One of the bridge towers will house a glass elevator (电梯). Visitors can ride a glass elevator up to see amazing views. There will be a café and a glass floor to walk on high above the ground. Brave people can even try the world’s highest bungee jump (蹦极) here!
