Teachers’ Day has a long history. In 1931, some educators (教育家) wanted June 6th to be Teachers’ Day. Many people liked this idea, so June 6th became Teachers’ Day then.
Later, things changed. People started using May 1st — also International Labor Day — as Teachers’ Day. But this didn’t work well. There were no special activities for teachers on that day, and Teachers’ Day didn’t feel special at all.
Then in 1985, a new decision came: September 10th would be Teachers’ Day in China.
Now, on September 10th, we show respect (尊重) to teachers. We thank them for helping us grow.
