One day, a big fire broke out in an apartment building. Firefighters arrived quickly to put out the fire. When they searched the rooms, they found four cats. Three of the cats were not moving at all.

The firefighters took the cats outside at once. They wanted to save them. They gave the cats CPR and chest compressions They used oxygen to help the cats breathe again. They worked very hard and did not give up.

After a few minutes, a small miracle happened. The cats started to move. Their eyes opened, and they slowly came back to life. The firefighters gave them water and took good care of them.

The firefighters said pets are like family to people. They could not leave the cats behind. Thanks to these kind firefighters, the four cats were saved. This story shows how brave and warm-hearted the firefighters are.

1.1.What happened to the apartment building?

A It caught fire.

B It fell down.

C It was lost.

D It was sold.

解析:选A。 题干询问“公寓楼发生了什么事”,定位到文章第一段第一句“One day, a big fire broke out in an apartment building.”,句中“a big fire broke out”意为“一场大火爆发”,与选项A“It caught fire.(它着火了)”表述一致。

2.2. How many cats couldn’t move?

A One.

B Three.

C Four.

D Five.

3.3. What does the word “miracle” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?

A A sad thing.

B A great help.

C A hard job.

D A happy surprise.

根据上下文,消防员对猫进行急救后,“The cats started to move. Their eyes opened, and they slowly came back to life.”

4.4. What happened to the cats at last?

A They died.

B They ran away.

C They survived.

D They got lost.

题干询问“猫咪最后怎么样了”,定位到文章第四段第二句“Thanks to these kind firefighters, the four cats were saved.”,句中“were saved”意为“被救了”,与选项C“They survived.(它们活了下来)”表述一致。

5.5. What can we know from the passage?

A Cats are clever pets.

B Fire is very dangerous.

C Firefighters are great.

D Apartments need care.
