The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) brings both help and problems. One big problem is AI-made tricks.
What is it? The AI learns from a large number of pictures and sounds of people’s faces and voices. It can copy how a person looks and talks. With just five seconds of your voice, it can make a new sound or video that looks real.
Why is it dangerous? Seeing is not always believing. Bad people use this AI to make untrue videos or sounds of famous people, bosses, or even your family. They may spread wrong news or try to get money from you. They can act like a friend or someone you know.
Four common tricks
Money-making tricks – Bad people act like famous persons and ask you to put money into a false place.
Love tricks – They make a false online person to be close to you and then ask for money.
Family trouble tricks – They act like a family member who is in danger and needs money right away.
Office worker tricks – They act like a company worker and ask for important information or money.
How to stay safe
Look at the eyes, mouth, and light in the video. Does it look strange or not clear?
On a video call, ask the person to move a finger across the face. Does the face change in a strange way?
Listen to the sound. Does it match the mouth moving?
Do not pick up video calls from people you do not know.
Never send money to an account you do not know. You can use a checking app from the police to see if a phone number or website is safe.
