China Astronaut Research and Training Center launched volunteer recruitment for the Dixing-3 bed rest experiment on May 6 via its WeChat official account Our Space.
Volunteers will be randomly assigned to either a control group or an exercise group, with a bed rest period of 15 or 30 days, extendable as needed to a maximum of 60 days. Those completing the full trial will receive a participation allowance of about 20,000 to 70,000 yuan.
Participants must remain in bed at a 6-degree head-down tilt or head-up position for daily activities such as dining, personal hygiene and rest, as well as medical tests. Those in the exercise group will follow daily scheduled physical training.
The official account initially said mobile phones were not allowed, but later deleted the comment and posted a pinned notice confirming phone use is permitted.
Recruitment is open to Chinese men aged 30 to 55, with strict requirements on height, BMI, eyesight, physical condition, lifestyle, conduct and psychological fitness. Full details are in the official recruitment notice.
