The 2026 World Team Table Tennis Championships ended in London on Sunday. China won both the women’s and men’s team titles after beating Japan in the two finals. This was the 20th time that China had taken both gold medals at the same world championships.

In the women’s final, China fought back to beat Japan 3–2 at Wembley Arena. This gave China their seventh straight women’s team title and the 24th in history. Their winning run started in Dortmund in 2012. Sun Yingsha, the world No.1, won both of her matches. After Wang Manyu and Kuai Man lost, Sun made the score even each time by winning her matches easily. In the fifth and final match, Wang Manyu played again and won comfortably to complete the comeback. Sun won all nine of her matches at the championship and was named the best female player.
In the men’s final, China swept Japan 3–0. It was China’s twelfth men’s team title in a row and the 24th overall. The winning run dates back to the 2001 edition in Osaka, Japan. Liang Jingkun made an amazing comeback in the first match: he was down 0–2 but won 3–2. Wang Chuqin and Lin Shidong then won their matches to make sure of the victory. Wang won all ten of his matches during the event and was named the best male player.
The 2026 tournament was especially meaningful because it was the 100th anniversary of the World Championships. The event returned to London, where the first championship was held in 1926. Once again, China showed its great power on table tennis’s biggest stage.

1.1. How did Sun Yingsha help the women’s team in the final?

A She won the last match.

B She played easily.

C She tied the score twice.

D She beat every rival.

根据第二段中“After Wang Manyu and Kuai Man lost, Sun made the score even each time by winning her matches easily.”

2.2. The underlined word “comeback” in Paragraph 2 means ________.

A a late start

B a win from behind

C a final game

D an easy victory

3.3. China’s men’s team winning run began ________ years ago.

A 25

B 12

C 24

D 20

解析:选A。 根据第三段中“The winning run dates back to the 2001 edition in Osaka, Japan.” 故选A。

4.4. What made the 2026 tournament special?

A It was the 100th event.

B It returned to London.

C It began in 1926.

D It marked 100 years.

根据最后一段第一句“The 2026 tournament was especially meaningful because it was the 100th anniversary of the World Championships.”

5.5. What is the best title for the passage?

A China sweeps team golds.

B Japan’s two final losses.

C Wang Chuqin’s prize.

D Sun Yingsha’s nine wins.

解析:选A。 故选A。
