Recently, a low-budget movie from Shenzhen became a big hit. It is called Dear You, and it tells a touching story about qiaopi — letters and money that overseas Chinese sent back home.

The movie centers on Grandma Ye Shurou, who spent many years waiting for her husband, Zheng Musheng. Her grandson wants to find out the truth about their family’s past. As he searches, he learns about Xie Nanzhi, a Thai woman of Chaoshan origin. Xie was like a sister to Zheng. After Zheng passed away, Xie secretly took care of Grandma Ye for eighteen years until 1978. She wrote letters and sent money in Zheng’s name, so that Grandma Ye would not lose hope. Grandma Ye knew nothing about it. In 1978, she received an overseas letter. Only a photo of Zheng Musheng, Xie Nanzhi and some children, with no words at all.Thinking her husband had started a new family in Southeast Asia, Grandma Ye was heartbroken. She moved away soon after and cut off all contact with him. Many years later, Xie’s adopted son brought the hidden story to light.

The film received a score of 9.0 out of 10 on Douban, a popular review platform — the highest among all new films during the May Day holiday. It quickly earned about 227 million yuan. Directed by Lan Hongchun, who comes from the Chaoshan region, the movie is filled with local customs and uses the real Chaoshan dialect. It shows family love and the lives of overseas Chinese in a simple, true-to-life way.

Although there are no famous stars, Dear You stood out among many big-budget movies. It was first shown in Guangdong and then across the country. A viewer from Shantou said it reminded her of her own grandmother. Director Lan said that the story is 90% true and 100% sincere, and he simply wanted to share a warm story about grandparents.

1.1. Who is the movie mainly about?

A Ye Shurou.

B Zheng Musheng.

C Xie Nanzhi.

D The grandson.

解析:选A。

2.2. When did Xie Nanzhi start to secretly look after Grandma Ye?

A In 1978.

B In 1960.

C In 1980.

D In 1958.

根据原文中的“After Zheng passed away, Xie secretly took care of Grandma Ye for eighteen years until 1978.”

3.3. What does the underlined word “heartbroken” mean?

A Very busy.

B Very happy.

C Very sad.

D Very bored.

4.4. Why could the low‑budget movie stand out among big‑budget ones?

A It had famous actors.

B It had expensive scenes.

C It was completely true.

D It was sincere and local.

文中的“Although there are no famous stars”直接否定A;低预算不可能有昂贵场景,排除B;导演说“the story is 90% true”表明并非完全真实,排除C。而“the movie is filled with local customs and uses the real Chaoshan dialect”以及导演称其“100% sincere”,说明正是真诚和浓郁的地方特色使它脱颖而出,故选D。

5.5. Why does the author mention “a viewer from Shantou” in the last paragraph?

A To prove the film only attracts old people.

B To show where the director’s grandmother lived.

C To show that the film can touch people.

D To explain why it was shown in Guangdong.

作者在末段引用“A viewer from Shantou said it reminded her of her own grandmother”,目的是用观众的切身感受证明电影能触动人心、引发情感共鸣。
