Amy Pye lives in Nanaimo. Many people think she is a hero for saving a man’s life. However, she says the real hero is a brave 12-year-old boy.

At 3 a.m. on a Saturday morning, Amy was fast asleep. Suddenly, her doorbell rang. She checked her door camera and saw a scared boy outside. He asked for help, saying his father needed help badly. Before coming to Amy’s house, he had knocked on three other doors, but no one answered.

Amy followed the boy to his home at once. She found his father lying face down in the bathroom. He was unresponsive (无反应的). With her Navy reserve (海军预备役) experience, Amy called 911 right away. She also did CPR (心肺复苏) to save the man.

She kept doing CPR for 10 to 15 minutes until doctors arrived. A doctor said most people can only do CPR for two minutes. It was really hard but great work for Amy.

Finally, the man was taken to the hospital. He is now recovering well. Amy’s quick action and the boy’s bravery together saved the man’s life.

1.1.What was Amy doing when the boy came to her door?

A She was sleeping.

B She was watching TV.

C She was singing.

D She was dancing.

解析:选A。 文章第二段第一句明确提到“At 3 a.m. on a Saturday morning, Amy was fast asleep”,由此可知当男孩来到她家门口时,Amy正在睡觉。 故选A。

2.2. Amy's door was the ________ door the boy knocked on.

A fourth

B first

C second

D third

解析:选A。 根据第二段最后一句“Before coming to Amy’s house, he had knocked on three other doors, but no one answered”可知,男孩在到达Amy家之前已经敲过三扇门,但无人应答,因此Amy的门是他敲的第四扇门。

3.3. What did Amy do first after seeing the sick man?

A She woke up the boy.

B She asked for professional help.

C She moved the man at once.

D She waited for others.

4.4. What can we learn about Amy’s first-aid work?

A It was easy.

B It was short.

C It was tough.

D It lasted two minutes.

文章第四段提到Amy持续做了10到15分钟CPR,而医生指出大多数人只能做两分钟,并评价“It was really hard but great work”,由此可以推断Amy的急救工作非常艰难。

5.5. How is the boy’s father now?

A He is still in danger.

B He needs more CPR.

C He has left the hospital.

D He is getting better.
