In the WTT US Grand Smash mixed doubles quarterfinals on July 2, China’s Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha fought back from two games down to defeat Alexis Lebrun and Satsuki Odo 3-2 (9-11, 10-12, 11-2, 11-6, 11-4), advancing to the semifinals. Wang said the match was extremely close and that they found their rhythm from the third game onward. Having not competed in mixed doubles at last year’s US Grand Smash, the fourth-seeded pair received a first-round bye and won their opener 3-0 against a Slovak duo, but admitted a lack of recent practice together. After a slow start in the quarterfinal, they mounted a comeback to seal the victory.
