The football-obsessed goalkeeper, described as having great __2__, said: “Everyone has down days, but I’ll try to keep smiling.”

Adam was a passenger in a car with friends when it crashed. He was taken to hospital. The operation was __3__, and now he is undergoing intensive rehabilitation (康复). On his first weekend back home, he went in his wheelchair to __4__ his teammates win a match.
He does not remember the accident __5__. “I remember waking up just before I went into surgery. 1.1.

A treatment

B operation

C recovery

D attempt

前文“lost both lower legs”(双腿失去),后文“below the knee”和“prosthetics(义肢)”均提示双腿需要截肢手术。

2.2.

A courage

B potential

C patience

D confidence

3.3.

A successful

B painful

C simple

D rapid

解析:选A。 前文“He was taken to hospital”交代了入院,后文“now he is undergoing intensive rehabilitation”(正在接受康复治疗)表明手术效果良好,顺利进入了康复阶段。 故选A。

4.4.

A watch

B stop

C make

D help

解析:选A。 故选A。

5.5.

A properly

B merely

C completely

D clearly

6.6.

A waited

B searched

C prayed

D apologised

后文“I kept saying sorry to her, thinking I’d put the whole family through such terrible worry”直接给出依据,Adam因自己遭遇车祸、让全家承受巨大担忧而内心愧疚,打电话向母亲道歉。 waited“等待”、searched“寻找”、prayed“祈祷”均不能与“for what was happening”构成合理语义。故选D。

7.7.

A eager

B ready

C confused

D surprised

后文“he hadn’t expected them all to be there”(没想到他们都会来)直接指向surprised(惊讶的),“hadn’t expected”是surprised的关键前提——若没想到他们会来,看到他们时的反应就是“意外”和“惊讶”。

8.8.

A support

B talent

C luck

D strength

解析:选A。 前文“see his family and his football coach”以及后文“They’ve all been here for me every day”(他们每天都陪着我),这些人每天陪在身边是一种持续的“支持”(support)。 故选A。

9.9.

A boring

B positive

C painful

D stressful

10.10.

A low

B bright

C weak

D dark

原句“Adam said his hopes were __10__ for the next stage of his life”。

11.11.

A fashion

B flow

C plan

D moment

I am just going with the __11__"为固定习语"go with the flow"(顺其自然)。前文他对未来充满希望,但同时又保持平常心——"I am still a normal guy"(我还是个普通人),这种"有期待但不强求"的态度与go with the flow完全吻合。

12.12.

A case

B favour

C spite

D terms

原句“in __12__ of his future mobility”。“in terms of”(就…… in case of“以防”、in spite of“尽管”、in favour of“有利于”均不符合句意——他是在做判断而非说“有利于”。故选D。

13.13.

A calm

B quiet

C upbeat

D honest

14.14.

A time

B day

C rest

D point

解析:选A。 “taking a day at a ___”为固定短语“take it a day at a time”(一天天来)。 day本身与前面的“a day”重复;rest“休息”不搭配;point无此固定表达。故选A。

15.15.

A forward

B outside

C around

D away

解析:选A。 前文“He’s not let it get him down, and just wants to go ___”。 forward与“not let it get him down”(不被击垮)形成递进关系——不仅没被打倒,还要往前走。 故选A。
