Have you ever planned a barbecue, only to find nobody to enjoy it with? Now you can solve this problem in a special way in Russia. People can pay strangers to be their barbecue partners, and the service costs between 15 and 65 dollars a day. Lots of related ads have appeared on online platforms, and this creative service is becoming more and more popular.

These paid barbecue companions can provide different kinds of help. A man named Artem from Moscow says he can help with barbecues and camping activities, cook meat and share interesting stories. Generally, they can set up grills (烤架),barbecue food and put up tents. Some are even ready to look for proper barbecue sites and buy food, as long as customers pay for the food.

There are clear rules for this service and it is reportedly offered only to men. Besides, service providers make it clear that this is just a business deal. Customers should not expect to develop a long-term friendship with them. If customers hope to spend more time with their companions, they need to pay extra money.

Researchers have studied the service. The results show it is most popular in three areas of Russia: Moscow, Krasnodar Krai and Nizhny Novgorod.

Evgeny Demchenko, a Russian restaurant owner, shared his opinion. He thinks it is normal for such services to appear when people have certain needs. Money cannot buy real friendship. However, many customers do not want to replace their old friends. They just hope to have a relaxing night and meet new people. He believes similar services will become more common and offer more choices in the future.

1.1.What can people hire strangers to do in Russia?

A To sell barbecues.

B To be barbecue partners.

C To run online platforms.

D To cook food at home.

文章第一段直接提到“People can pay strangers to be their barbecue partners”,这说明人们可以付钱请陌生人做烧烤伙伴,因此B项正确。

2.2. What help may the barbecue companions offer?

A Designing online advertisements.

B Choosing good places for barbecues.

C Building houses for campers.

D Selling meat to customers.

第二段明确说明“Some are even ready to look for proper barbecue sites”,也就是有些人甚至愿意帮忙寻找合适的烧烤地点,因此B项符合原文。

3.3. What does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 3 refer to?

A Customers.

B Rules.

C Providers.

D Men.

第三段中画线词“them”所在句子为“Customers should not expect to develop a long-term friendship with them”,前一句说服务提供者明确表示这只是商业交易,因此可以判断这里的“them”指代的是上一句中的“service providers”,即服务提供者,故选C。

4.4. What can we infer from Evgeny Demchenko’s words?

A He thinks the service is understandable.

B He doesn’t like the service.

C He needs many new friends.

D He worries about newstyle services.

解析:选A。 他说“it is normal for such services to appear when people have certain needs”,意思是在人们有需求时出现这类服务是很正常的。 故选A。

5.5. What is the main idea of the passage?

A Popular outdoor activities in Russia.

B Advice on how to hold barbecues.

C Ways to make new friends outdoors.

D A special paid service in Russia.
